April 29, 2012

One more step in the process. I finally got the courage to cut the metal piece that will cover my kitchen cabinet. I had to cut a hole for the light switch and cut about two inches off the top. The painting was easy. I can't mess that up, right?

Tiny Tabasco- One eight of a fluid ounce. I didn't know they came in bottles this small. Just a taste, please.

April 27, 2012

Another cool window. I found this window at an estate sale shop. I knew I would regret not buying it. My intention with this and the other window I bought was to use them as photo frames. Now, I just need to print up some photos.

Confiscated. A guy brought this knife to the game tonight. He saw that security had metal detectors so he hooked the knife on the edge of the garbage can, no doubt intending to retrieve it at the end of the game. Once he got far enough away, I took it. No knife for you mister.

Another beautiful morning.

April 24, 2012

Charlie enjoyed his dinner tonight. Not sure why tonight would be any different since he eats the same thing every night.

April 23, 2012

"My Old Friend" lyrics by John Hiatt. I bought an old oil painting from a thrift store. I used vinyl letters to write out the song lyrics, then I spray painted the whole thing with pale yellow paint. I removed the vinyl letters and voila! I event repainted the frame. Not bad for my first attempt. Credit for the idea goes Elsie Larson at abeautifulmess.typad.com

April 22, 2012

Sacramento Swap Meet. The arena hosted an auto swap meet today. It's huge. It took over two hours just to walk through all of the aisles. There were several people wearing signs looking for specific items. I hope this guy finds what he's looking for.

April 21, 2012

Roof garden. As I was working in the yard, I noticed something green poking up on my roof. This is what I found. And I thought I didn't have a green thumb.

April 20, 2012

Morning coffee. I had my morning coffee and read the news on the patio this morning. It felt like a mini vacation.

April 19, 2012

I love this time of year. I saw these beautiful flowers while taking the dogs for a walk.

April 18, 2012

Ceiling tile...wall tile...I needed something interesting to cover the side of my kitchen cabinet, which is  now exposed because I removed the another cabinet adjacent to it. I decided to go with a metal ceiling tile. I'm going to paint it and possibly add some patina effects.

Kohl's knows me. I have a Kohl's account. I get these % off coupons often. They tease you and say you 15, 20 or 30% off. They must know that I won't use the coupon unless it's 30%, so that's usually what I get.

April 16, 2012

Another fence idea. I was in Davis having lunch with Zac and Colleen and saw this fence as I was walking back to the car. It's super cool and fits the look of my house. Now to investigate whether it's affordable or not. Cell phone cameras are so useful for gathering ideas for future projects.

April 15, 2012

He looks like a prairie dog. Tucker's walk on the wild side resulted in tons of nasty corkscrew stickers. It took about an hour to get them out. Tucker won't be doing this again, unless he gets a very close shave.

April 14, 2012

Perceived Exertion Index. This poster hangs on the wall at my swim club. Most of the time, I'm in the 7-8 category of really tired. And that's before I even start.

April 13, 2012

Elevator duty. We had a very, very limited staff for the event tonight, so I gave breaks to the elevator operators. Kudos to them for doing this job. I was in there less than a minute before I started to get fidgety.

April 12, 2012

Homemade ledge. Rather than hanging my very delicate, antique metal plaques, I decided to put them on a photo ledge. I shopped around and couldn't find one that I liked in my price range (cheap). In keeping with my homemade kick, I made a ledge. I used two pieces of wood corner covers so that there is a ledge and a surface to attach the ledge to the wall. I glued them together and then painted them white. I might repaint them a little less white, but for now, my plaques are up. By the way, it is level, my photo is crooked.

April 11, 2012

My back porch lights haven't worked for months. I did some investigating and found that one of the circuit breakers was tripped. (I thought I checked that months ago) Anyway, my lights are on again. Yeah!

Vacuum love. Is it possible to love a vacuum after one use? I say, "Love on!"

April 8, 2012

My collection of tins. I'm going to plant flowers in them. (Another attempt at horticulture).

April 7, 2012

Before and After. I never liked these overhead cabinets between my kitchen and family room, so with the help, once again of Pam, Ken and Roger, we removed them. What a difference. Now I need to patch things up and add a few pendent lights.

April 6, 2012

Free Agapanthus plants. My good friends, Pam and Ken, gave me some agapanthus plants that they had removed from their yard. I like free, so I took them and planted them in my front yard. There is no downside here. Pam says they are very hardy plants. If they live, my yard looks that much better. If they die, which they very well could given my black thumb, I won't feel nearly as guilty as I could if I had spent a ton of money on them. And in the event of their death, Ken and Pam and I will drink a beer in their honor.

April 3, 1012

I needed to get out of the office for a few minutes, so I took a long walk around the arena. I came upon this patch of dried mud. It reminded of when I was a kid and used to imagine the dried mud like this as a huge puzzle.

April 2, 1012

Tucker must have read Saturday's post.

April 1, 2012

Just before starting my swim, I take a good long look at the pool. I decide how many laps to swim based on how I feel. About halfway through my swim, I decide whether I can swim more laps than I originally planned. I usually do. The thing is, I'm not 100% honest with myself because I often estimate low just so that I feel more successful. I guess, since I know I am not being totally honest with myself, I'm not really be deceitful. Am I?

March 31, 2012

I confess, as much as I love my dog, sometimes I want this.
